Virgil Abloh x Louis Vuitton
Virgil Abloh, the genius behind streetwear brand Off White, has just been announced Creative Director of Menswear at Louis Vuitton. In a move that promises so much, this is a bold step for the luxury brand. Abloh, replaces Kim Jones who’s been with the brand since 2011. This crossover already has heat, as google searches for Louis Vuitton and Virgil Abloh spiked, post announcement. This new direction shows the brands interest in massively revamping their appeal and increasing inclusivity to grab more market share.
Feasting or Fasting?
Goooorge time babes. Virgil Abloh is going to resurrect Louis Vuitton past classic luxury. With what he’s managed to do in his short reign without ever having studied fashion, he’s going to bless the brand. Off White is chic street wear defined. As Creative Director of Menswear at Louis Vuitton, I expect Virgil Abloh to pull the brand into life & modernity. But more than modernity, I think he’ll also pull the brand into a vibrance that’s more representative and inclusive. Make no mistake that Louis Vuitton is repositioning itself by naming Abloh as Creative Director. They know he’ll move the brand towards inclusivity for the millennial market, which is now the largest spending power. Brands that are actively pursuing diversity are finding themselves on the happier side of the coin and customer. I can’t wait to see what Abloh does with Louis Vuitton as a brand. If the past decade is any indication, we are all in for a snack, an entrée and a dessert. I am drooling waiting for his first course to come down the runway.
